Crafting Cultural Collages in Embroidery Hoops with Ismail Khokon

Join us at the Central Library for a unique artistic journey where your personal photographs become vibrant works of cultural expression. Bring your own photos either physical or on a mobile device and learn how to transform them into stunning collages using a variety of techniques especially in cotton fabrics.

You'll explore the rich tapestry of your heritage and culture, decorating your art with meaningful symbols and motifs. Ismail will walk you through his creative process, sharing insights and tips for crafting compelling photomontages.

Additionally, you'll get an exclusive tour of his current group exhibition Speak Her Name currently on show in the library, gaining inspiration and a deeper understanding of the art form. As part of the broader initiative, “Standing In This Place,” this project emphasises the global cotton narrative, the Swadeshi movement in South Asia, and women’s roles in shaping shared histories.

Unleash your creativity and connect with your cultural roots in this hands-on, engaging workshop. At the end of the workshop you will be able to take your art work home.
