Heritage Hoops: Storytelling Through Adornment with Anisha Parmar

Join us at the Central Library for a workshop with Anisha Parmar, a renowned jewellery designer, artist, curator, and project producer, for a unique and enriching workshop experience. Anisha, whose work is deeply inspired by her South Asian heritage and diaspora, uses storytelling and narrative as the core of her creative practice. She believes in the power of jewellery to unlock histories and tell personal stories, often challenging cultural and heritage organisations through themes of decolonisation, reclamation, and empowerment.

In this hands-on workshop, you will:

  • Document Your Memories: Reflect on and document your personal memories of adornment. Bring a piece of cloth that holds deep meaning to you or represents your identity. This cloth will be the canvas on which you will tell your story.

  • Engage in Material Play and Collage: Utilise various materials and techniques to creatively express your story. Through the process of embellishing embroidery hoops, you'll explore the art of material play and collage.

  • Create with Laser Cut Embellishments and Transfer Adornments: Anisha will guide you in using specially designed laser cut embellishments and transfer adornments to enhance your piece. These elements will help you articulate your narrative visually and tangibly.

By the end of the workshop, you will have a unique, handcrafted piece that beautifully encapsulates your story through adornment and creativity. This is more than just a workshop; it's an opportunity to connect with your personal history and express it in a meaningful and artistic way.
